The dam of Tiryns

A hydraulic wonder of prehistory.

The Tiryns dam is one of the most important hydraulic engineering works in Greece and Europe of the Mycenaean era, although it is found hidden in plain sight.

This work consisted of two parts: a large retaining wall over 50 meters long and 10 meters high, and a canal one and a half kilometers long that carried the waters of three streams to another river in the vicinity to discharge into the sea.

This enormous work was done 3500 years ago to prevent floods in the population of Tiryns.
