Cape Sounion was a key site in antiquity for guarding the sea routes both to Athens, as well as to the famous silver mines of Laurium, the reason for Athens’ economic success and its sanctuary to Poseidon is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the vicinity of the Greek capital, promoted by travel guides as the ideal place to enjoy the sunset.
Now, just 400 meters away, on the opposite hill, there existed another sanctuary, whose main temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and which today is much less known and less visited, for the simple reason that it is difficult to visit.
In this video, we are going to briefly explore the remains of this sanctuary and comment on how to visit it.
