The Oldest Bridges in the World

On our day’s adventure, we are going to explore the Micenaean bridges, considered the oldest bridges in the world, with more than 3000 years of existence.

Known as the bridges of Arkadiko, these 3 bridges were part of a road that connected Micenae and Tiryns, with the port of Epidauro.

These 3 bridges are located in the Peloponnese, in Greece.

They are known as Ardadiko, Kazarma and Petrogefyri.

New infrastructure in historic cities

The likelihood of archaeological discoveries is very high when public works projects are underway, often requiring work to be halted until a survey of the findings has been completed.

Today we visited two streets in the city of Sparta, an excavation no more than 70 meters long by 1 meter wide, and saw a portion of what they found.

The church of Agia Foteini, Mantineia, Greece

Churches near archaeological sites usually have several common characteristics.

The first is that they are usually quite old, dating back to the beginning of Christianity.

The second is a simple design, perhaps a product of its age. The third is that they tend to “recycle” material from the ruins…

However, the church of Agia Foteini, in the Peloponnese, shatters all those expectations.

The church of Agia Foteini is considered to be one of the strangest churches in the world.

Athens with Snow

Special Christmas episode! – Walking under the snow in Athens

In our first Christmas special, we are going to tour a different Athens, covered in snow.
These never-before-seen shots were recorded on February 16, 2021, but we wanted to keep them for a special occasion.

The carol “The Holly and the Ivy” was performed on classical guitar by the guitarist, philologist, and above all, our adventure companion, Athanasia Nikolakopoulou.

Lake Vouliagmeni of Corinth

The Vouliagmeni lake is in Greece, in the north of the Peloponnese region, 98 km from Athens and 23 KM from Corinth.

The lagoon is 2 km long by 1km wide. And a depth of up to 40m.

It is connected to the sea by a 6 meter wide channel, with a strong current, fish and sea urchins.

Do not confuse it with another Vouliagmeni lake, 20km south of Athens, which is basically a cenote with thermal waters…

But we will talk about that at another time…

Multiple human occupation remains have been found from the 3rd to the 2nd millennium BC.

Nowadays, it is the favorite beach of the inhabitants of Loutraki, a seaside town about 16km to the east.

The Heraion of Perachora of Corinth

The Heraion of Perachora is a true gem of the ancient world.

It was built in a beautiful location, surrounded by lush nature and the sea.

The Heraion holds much more history and infrastructure than meets the eye for the casual visitor.

In this video, we explore its many ruins in detail, including many never before shown on YouTube and about which little information is readily available.
