The Palace of Nestor
The Palace of Nestor is, along with Mycenae and Tiryns, one of the most important archaeological sites of the Minoan civilization and of Ancient Greece. It is not only the best preserved palace of that civilization, but where the most information has been found about it, thanks to the discovery of clay tablets, written in Linear B.
On our day’s adventure we are going to explore in detail the known as “Palace of Nestor”, visit briefly the palace of Iklaina in the vicinity, as well as Minoan tombs in the area.
In our day adventure, we are going to do a circular hike in the Pylos area and the Navarino Bay, which combines history and nature in a quite unique way.
We are going to visit the Voidokoilia beach, a beach with one of the most striking landscapes in Greece, Nestor’s cave, a huge cave and probably a sanctuary; the Navarino castle, also known as Paleokastro, the Gialova wetland, where you can see many birds, including storks and flamingos and finally we are going to visit a Mycenaean tomb attributed to the son of Nestor, the wise king of Pylos according to Homer’s Iliad.

Ancient Thera
Today we travel to the paradisiacal island of Santorini, to visit one of the best preserved ancient cities of the Aegean Sea and of Greece, known as Ancient Thera.
This site, besides having very well preserved and spectacular views, preserves one of the most unusual sanctuaries carved in rock that we have seen.
In this site, the city is preserved almost complete, with its houses, its paved streets, its sanctuaries and other public buildings.
Furthermore, we will visit the Zoodoxos cave (which translates as “that gives life”), the only source of potable water of antiquity in the island, which is a short distance from the ancient population.

The wall Dema of Athens
It seems that Athens has many ruins, more than the common Athenian knows. Many are found underground, in the basement of some building; others hidden behind fences while others are lost in industrial areas.
What they have in common all these ruins is that they are rather small or in poor condition of conservation.
Rare is the case that a huge structure like a wall is unknown and preserved in excellent condition.
In our adventure of the day we are going to visit the Dema wall, tell a little about its history and understand how it can be so unknown.

Diolkos of Corinth
The Corinth Canal hides on one of its sides, the remains of one of the most interesting ancient engineering works: a paved road that was used for the transport of goods and ships, by land, and would be the oldest predecessor of the railway.
In this video, we are going to tell its story, its speculations and controversies, its abandonment to the elements and the works for its recovery.
We last year explored the metro network looking for the different museums and archaeological sites that were within, on top of, or near the different stations.
Now well, by lack of knowledge, we did not include 3 stations, one of them with the oldest ruins of the entire network.
So, in our adventure of the day we are going to explore these sites in detail, as well as show the surroundings and tell a little about their history.
Cape Sounion was a key site in antiquity for guarding the sea routes both to Athens, as well as to the famous silver mines of Laurium, the reason for Athens’ economic success and its sanctuary to Poseidon is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the vicinity of the Greek capital, promoted by travel guides as the ideal place to enjoy the sunset.
Now, just 400 meters away, on the opposite hill, there existed another sanctuary, whose main temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and which today is much less known and less visited, for the simple reason that it is difficult to visit.
In this video, we are going to briefly explore the remains of this sanctuary and comment on how to visit it.

The fortified city of Ramnous
Today, the archaeological site of Ramnous is, for many, a surprise and a paradox. On one hand, it is one of the most unknown sites in Attica and on the other hand, it is the best preserved ancient sanctuary of the region, one of the best preserved in all Greece and a unique example that allows us to perceive how the Greek cities of antiquity were.
But, two thousand years ago, its extensive fame was thanks to its sanctuary to Nemesis, the goddess of vengeance, and that it was the most important in Ancient Greece.
On our day’s adventure, we are going to visit Ramnous, to explore in detail its ruins and tell you something of its history.
We explored the archaeological site of Kolona, in Aegina, Greece, as well as its archaeological museum and the land and underwater defenses of the area.
